Introduction

The Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) is a funding programme from Creative New Zealand, administered by Hastings District Council, that supports opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts and cultural activities.

Funding applications for the Hastings District are assessed by the CCS Assessment Committee. This committee is made up of councillors and community representatives with knowledge and experience across a wide range of local arts and cultural activities.

We are currently seeking community representatives to join the committee in the following areas:

  • Ngā Toi Māori
  • Multicultural Communities
  • Youth (18–24 years)

Community representatives are appointed for a minimum of one term (three years) and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms (six years).

There are two funding rounds each year, held in February/March and August/September. Committee members are required to:

  • Assess all applications assigned to them
  • Read and consider other applications submitted in each funding round
  • Attend two assessment meetings per year

A modest fee is paid for both application assessments and meeting attendance.

Applications are assessed against detailed criteria and aligned with the Toi Tū Framework, the regional strategic framework that supports creativity and the creative sector across Hawke's Bay.

Nominations for assessors close at midnight on Sunday, 15 November 2026.

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, 20 November 2026, and will be expected to attend an assessor training session in late January 2027.

Please note that successful applicants must have access to the internet and be comfortable using the SmartyGrants online system to assess funding applications.
